Michael O’Neill

Michael completed a PhD in geotechnical engineering in 2000 at The University of Western Australia.  In 2001 he joined Advanced Geomechanics, which in 2013 became part of Fugro.  Michael has 17 years of consultancy experience in the analysis and design of foundations for the offshore oil and gas industry.  This experience includes management and implementation of conceptual, front-end and detailed engineering design programmes for deep foundations (such as driven and drilled/grouted piles), shallow foundations (such as mudmats and caissons) and anchor-chain systems (comprising drag anchors, suction anchors and pile anchors) in carbonate sediments.  Michael has worked on a number of significant local projects (including Angel, North Rankin B, Ichthys, Wheatstone, Prelude, Scarborough, Browse), has spent time in project offices working directly with clients and has co-authored a number of geotechnical journal and conference papers.  Michael’s offshore site experience includes client representation and supervision of platform foundation installations and geotechnical site investigations.
