David Thain

Maintenance & Operations experience -23years. Left school in 1990 (after YR12) and joined Shell UK as an apprentice technician in Aberdeen. Started working offshore in 1993 and completed my apprenticeship as a mechanical/Operations technician in 1994 and worked permanently offshore until mid 2000. In that time I was responsible for operating and commissioning several subsea systems before moving onshore and taking an Asset team lead position in Aberdeen I emigrated to Australia in 2006 to take up a position as Woodsides Subsea Production Team Lead. People ask me why have you spent so long in Production within O&G companies? I look at it like this. If I was in Formula 1 would I rather be designing the car or driving it and feeding back improvements?
