Michael Garvey joined Shell Australia as a Metocean Engineer in 2013. Michael’s role as a Metocean Engineer embedded within an operating oil and gas company is to ensure metocean risks are understood and mitigated by the business. This means being involved in all phases of hydrocarbon development from exploration, early project feasibility through to design and operations. He worked on the design and execution of several offshore metocean surveys and assists with management of real-time metocean systems. He studied Environmental Engineering at the University of Western Australia, completing Bachelors with Honours in 2004. Prior to joining Shell he worked in the consulting sector (primarily for oil and gas) gaining experience in metocean and environmental modelling, measured data analysis and appreciating the impact of metocean information on offshore projects and operations.
