Mike Bowler

Mike has been with Woodside Energy for 13 years.Mike obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Survey Science at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, United Kingdom in 1981. He commenced his offshore survey career as a surveyor and party chief with Gardline, based in Great Yarmouth, primarily working in the North Sea on a variety of rig site survey, pipeline and cable route surveys, as well as undertaking hydrographic surveys for nautical charting. He joined the Hydrographic Office of the Ministry of Defense in 1986 as a HydrographicOfficer, responsible for preparation and QC of surveys and navigational charts for areas as diverse as the Persian Gulf, South America, West Africa and the busy sea lanes and changing sandbanks of the Southern North Sea and Dover Strait.Mike emigrated to Australia in 1991 and worked as a freelance hydrographic surveyor, primarily with Associated Surveys (later Fugro Survey Pty Ltd), specializing in acoustic positioning and construction projects in Australia and throughout South East Asia. In 1998 he took up a position with Shell as Survey Coordinator for Brunei Shell Petroleum, which involved managing onshore and offshore surveys including a major ROV inspection survey of 190 of the company’s offshore pipelines, utilising digital video capture and GIS. Mike left Shell in 2003 to join Woodside in Perth where has held a variety of roles covering Survey Operations, Seismic Acquisition and Processing and Health and Safety and is presently their Survey Operations Manager within the GeoTechnical Operations Department.Throughout his operational career he has been committed to Technology and Health and Safety improvement initiatives within the industry. Mike is a former chairman of SurveySafe and is presently on the IOGP Shared Common Industry Technical Standards Task Force.
